![]() ![]() We see that Joan is aware of this too in Season 5, so it's not only creative that is noticing Don's decline. Remember how much of the really good, cutting edge creative work was being done increasingly by Ginsberg, Peggy, and even Megan, the former secretary. Then Season 5-6 rolls around it becomes ever clearer that not only is Don's behavior getting worse, his work is also increasingly out of touch with SCDP's clients and reality. Don is also an utter disaster in season 6 even by Madison Avenue standards, which I think is easier for us to forget because he's the protagonist.įor years now, Don has scared off clients, disappeared for periods of time without warning, and generally been allowed to throw his weight around and act like a spoiled child because of his creative prowess and vision. I don't think it's just the money, though it's a huge contributing factor - I mean, I don't think you have to be 'money hungry' to be extremely pissed off that someone's bullshit attitude cost you $7 million, particularly if it's something you sacrificed your sense of morals in order to get (sleeping with the Jaguar sleezeball) and it's been a pattern of this same unacceptable behavior. She would have gotten a partnership in like 5-10 years if she didn’t sleep w herb anyway prob tho Joan was a great character and had a great arc but she was a lucky beneficiary of her looks. Bookkeeper? Really? Do you know anything about business? Thats the easiest job there is, even easier than being a secretary lol. She was a fantastic office manager, but that’s not usually something that gets awarded with a partnership. What else did she do to deserve a partnership? Nothing. I have no doubt she went onto make millions in her producing business because that suited her skillset more and she is very talented and charming.īut she didn’t become partner because she was a good account man, she became a partner because she had sex with someone, not the luxury any of the other partners or (most I’d imagine lol) got. She brought zero value to them as an account executive because she never once mentioned new accounts, merely talking about “her” current accounts and always mentioned her accounts with the impression of them being massive achievements. Bitch is a harsh word, but I’ve rewatched this show many times and I can confidently say she sucked at having a fundamental understanding of her job in season 7, which is why McCann pushed her out. I see you tried to get more than 5 upvotes and failed. You have, quite literally, missed the point of the show.Ĭalling a woman in the 1960s trying to carve out a space on Madison Avenue an "entitled bitch" is so out-of-touch stupid, I don't think you deserve to watch this show. What part of that is "entitled"? Are you really going to argue that being a women in the 1960s offers her privilege? Joan's character arc is one of the best-written demonstrations of the frustrations of sexism in TV history. And yet despite this talent, she had to climb the corporate ladder in the slowest, most humiliating way because of her gender. Weiner ended the show by clearly implying Joan's bright future as the owner of her own company. Joan has shown to be business savvy and an efficient leader. Calling her a entitled bitch is so out of left field, I had to do a double take. ![]() She's earned her partnership, and she deserved that money Don lost the company.īut that's not even the worst part of this post. Almost all the partners have described her as invaluable. Nearly every character on the show has remarked on her excellent ability to keep SCDP's books straight and business running. Holy shit, this post is horrifying and read like it's straight out of the 60s. ![]()
